Safety highlighted in new campaign
As everyone who works in the NSW coal industry knows, safety is always our number one priority.
We’ve made good progress over recent years to improve our safety record, with fatalities now a relatively rare occurrence in our industry.
However, any injury or fatality is one too many, and our thoughts are with family, friends, colleagues and everyone else who has been affected by the recent tragic loss of life at the Austar mine.
The NSW Minerals Council has launched a new advertising campaign supporting coal, and everyone who works in the industry, or depends upon coal mining in NSW.
The campaign highlights some of the main reasons why our high quality coal is needed now, and into the future.
This includes the essential role of coal for making steel used for frames, roofing and fencing in home building projects all over the state.
And the campaign will also explain why the world will still need coal for reliable electricity for many years to come, even as other forms of energy generation are developed over time.
Examples from our new campaign can be found at www.responsiblemining.com.au/low-emissions-future
As we commence our new campaign promoting coal for the future, the Dartbrook mine in the Hunter has re-commenced coal production after a long period of care and maintenance.
This is an exciting development for the Hunter coal sector, delivering around 200 jobs, $27 million annually in wages to the local workforce.
